RECOMMENDED COURSE OF STUDY: The Colorado Model Content Standards for Science, which were adopted by the State Board of Education on May 10, 1995, provide specific expectations as to what all students should know and be able to do in science. In order to enable all District No. 11 students to meet these standards, high school teachers revised the science curriculum. A course was created for ninth grade students, called Introduction to Physical, Chemical and Earth Sciences. This course, along with a biology course completed in the tenth grade will enable students to meet the standards within two years. Students who plan to complete more than the two years of science required for graduation may master the standards by studying a variety of courses which include content in physical science, life science, and earth and space science. Students who enter the ninth grade with a mastery of the high school standards may choose to "test out" of the Introduction to Physical, Chemical and Earth Sciences course. A proficiency test is being developed to assess mastery of the science standards.
